Printing from a Chromebook is not specifically supported by the IT department. You are welcome to try to connect your printer to the Chromebook. However, it will be up to you to be able to connect it and troubleshoot any issue with it.
You may not be able to print to older printers that you may have at home on a Chromebook. To be able to print to a specific printer you may want to verify that it is even compatible first. For instance, look for phrases such as “Google Cloud Print” or “Google Cloud Print Capable”. You will need to check with the manufacture of the printer to see if it is possible to print from the Chromebook to the printer at all.
